“Disability is not inability.” This maxim is the motivation for persons with disabilities in the North West Region who will showcase their artistic talents on December 02 – 03, 2025 to commemorate International Day for Persons With Disabilities, observed every year on December 03.
In a chat with this Columnist, Nogning Armelle, Disability Rights Activist and Disability Inclusion Promoter, who is also the Board Chairperson of the Coordinating Unit of Associations of Persons With Disabilities, CUAPWD, outlined the activities planned towards the commemoration of the international day for persons with disabilities. She said a major highlight for persons with disabilities in the North West Region will be the display of their artistic prowess in the domains of music, arts and crafts, and others.
Nogning Armelle said activities to commemorate the day will begin on December 02, 2025 at the conference hall of the Regional Delegation of Arts and Culture. She said activities of the day will include presentation of a survey findings on the strides achieved in the North West Region in the promotion of social inclusion for persons with disabilities; insightful deliberations on the survey findings by a panel of experts; presentation of a documented list of available opportunities for improving the inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of life; and other activities to commemorate the international day.
The Disability Rights Activist said the success of the day will be thanks to the efforts of the North West Regional Delegation of Social Affairs in partnership with Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services, CBCHS, United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, and CUAPWD.
It is worth noting that the theme for the 2025 International Day for Persons With Disabilities is “Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress.” Meanwhile, at the level of Cameroon, to suit local realities, the theme is “Innovation for Inclusion: Building Inclusive Communities Together.”
