Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, Prime Minister, Head of Government, on Thursday, October 15, 2026 set the stage for a community dialogue initiative in the North West Region. The initiative is one of the ways the Cameroon government has put in place to promote peace and stability in the crisis-stricken North West and South West Regions. The project which involves house to house and community to community dialogue initiative is coming after the Major National Dialogue that held from September 30 to October 4, 2019 in the Yaounde Conference Centre.

According to government authorities, the community dialogue operation is expected to bring together local authorities, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other community representatives to discuss ways of addressing the challenges facing the region.

The initiative comes against the backdrop of years of insecurity in the North West and South West Regions, which have affected communities, disrupted education and economic activities, and forced many people to flee from their homes. The government intends to use the community dialogue initiative to encourage community involvement in peace efforts and persuade fighters willing to abandon violence to lay down their arms and take part in rebuilding their communities.

The launch in Bamenda is part of government’s continued efforts to promote dialogue and restore normalcy in the conflict-affected regions.

Another high point of the Head of Government’s visit to the North West Region was the evaluation of major infrastructure projects in Bamenda, including urban road works, public buildings and facilities aimed at improving services to the population. Among the sites inspected were roads under the C2D development programmes that are valued at about FCFA 30 billion. These include the Bamenda Urban Crossing road project and Mankon District Hospital. During the visits, the Prime Minister received updates from project officials and urged construction teams to maintain the required standards.

The infrastructure projects form part of wider government efforts to support reconstruction and development in the North West Region.

However, restoring lasting peace remains a major challenge. The success of the community dialogue initiative will depend on the willingness of stakeholders to participate, build trust and support practical measures to address insecurity.

As the initiative gets underway, the population will be looking for concrete outcomes that can improve security, encourage displaced families to return home and allow schools, businesses and other community activities to operate in safer conditions.
