The finals of the inaugural Professional Fighters League (PFL) Africa Tournament will hold in Cotonou, Benin on Saturday, December 20.
Four PFL Africa Champions will be crowned across the Heavyweight, Welterweight, Featherweight, and Bantamweight divisions. Each division winner will claim a $100,000 prize, representing one of the highest payouts for professional athletes in Africa, and earn the title of the inaugural PFL Africa Tournament Champion
The fight night will feature a total of 11 explosive fights including four title bouts and seven showcases. Among the 22 MMA fighters from different African countries are four Cameroonians: Alain Majorique (Featherweight title contender), Jashell Ticha Awa, Desmond Tamungang, and PFL Africa newcomer Styve Ngono.
Ahead of Saturday’s fight, the MMA Lions from Cameroon have vowed to bring victory home. Speaking at a pre-fight press conference on Wednesday at the Sofitel Marina Hotel in Cotonou, Majorique and Ngono stated they are in Cotonou for nothing other than victories.
Undefeated in his six MMA fights, Majorique said he is determined to maintain his winning streak and claim Gold when he faces Nigerian, Wasi Adeshina in the finals on Saturday.
“Wasi is good, but I am going to counter him with vicious shots… Every fight is important, I have to stay focused,” Majorique said.
On his part, Ngono assured Cameroonians that he and his team had a good preparation and he is confident of not just a victory, but achieving it by a knockout.
He will make his PFL debut against Ivory Coast’s Mélèdje Yedoh in a Light Heavyweight Showcase Bout.
“I have a lot of respect for my opponent, but I am going hurt him,” Ngono promised.
Though new in PFL, Ngono said he has no pressure as the PFL SmartCage is just another cage, “There are no two cages, I have been in the octagon seven times before. So, I have no pressure”.
