The Nkambe Municipal Stadium came alive as thousands gathered for a twin event organized under the patronage of the Senior Divisional Officer for Donga Mantung, Mr. Basiliken George. The ceremony combined educational support initiatives with a major football tournament, both sponsored by H.E. Prof. Fuh Calistus Gentry.
The day commenced with the distribution of financial assistance and school supplies to 50 orphans affected by the socio-political crisis. Selected from the five subdivisions that make up Donga Mantung Division, each beneficiary went home smiling as he/she received just enough to facilitate their return to school.
In addition, outstanding students who distinguished themselves in the 2026 General Certificate of Education (GCE) and Technical and Vocational Education Examination (TVEE), at both Ordinary and Advanced Levels, were rewarded through the Donga Mantung Scholarship Fund. Four top-performing students from each subdivision received scholarships ranging from CFAF 50,000 to CFAF 150,000, bringing the total number of awardees to 40.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Coordinator of the Donga Mantung Scholarship Fund, Mr. Tarlishi Oliver, expressed profound gratitude to H.E. Prof. Fuh Calistus Gentry for what he described as a fatherly gesture towards the educational advancement of the youth. He added that the gesture has put smiles on the face of several children. “Your Excellency, May God Replenish the source”.
According to Mr. Tarlishi Oliver, the scholarship fund, now in its seventh year, has established itself as a reliable partner in education through its commitment to promoting academic excellence, hard work, and youth empowerment across the division.
The second phase of the event featured the grand finale of the Ako/Misaje Special Constituency Zonal Football Tournament. The competition, supported by a total sponsorship package of CFAF 7 million donated by Prof. Fuh Calistus Gentry, attracted an estimated crowd of over 25,000 spectators.
The final match pitted Misaje FC against Ni Wa Mbembe FC in a highly anticipated encounter. Determined to claim the trophy, both teams displayed remarkable skill and resilience before an enthusiastic crowd whose cheers and drumbeats echoed throughout Nkambe and its surrounding communities.
Ni Wa Mbembe FC opened the scoring after 18 minutes of play, but Misaje FC quickly responded with an equalizer to keep the contest balanced. As the game appeared headed for a draw, Nwa Mbembe FC struck again with just four minutes remaining, securing a dramatic victory and taking the trophy home to Ako Subdivision.
At the end of the match, the tournament coordinator Nkanya Nkwai who doubles as mayor of Ako Council praised H.E. Prof. Fuh Calistus Gentry for his consistent commitment to youth development through sports and education. He also commended both teams for their exemplary sportsmanship and competitive spirit throughout the tournament.
The twin event once again highlighted Prof. Fuh Calistus Gentry’s continued investment in the future of Donga Mantung’s youth through educational support, scholarships, and the promotion of sporting activities. Present at the grandstand was the Mayor of Nkambe council, Musa Shey Nfor and over 20 traditional rulers.
