On November 6, 2025 Paul Biya, President-elect of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, party was sworn into office as the new President of Cameroon at the National Assembly. The swearing in and oath taking ceremony that held at the Paul Biya Glass House in the neighborhoods of Ngoa-Ekele, Yaounde, kick-started another seven year mandate for President Paul Biya who has been at the helm of the Cameroon State since 1982 as Head of State.
After taking the oath of office, President Paul Biya elaborated on actions he intends to embark on during his new mandate. He hinted on a constitutional amendment. “We will also submit to Parliament some reforms to enhance the State’s efficiency by adapting our institutions to the demands of our environment.”
Political analysts hold strongly that the constitutional reforms hinted by the Head of state might include the position of Vice President with right to succession. And that if this happens, it will pave the way for the Head of state to ensure a smooth transition of power.
Paul Biya also pledged to focus on youth and women empowerment through the provision of a level ground for youth entrepreneurship, vocational training and the grating of soft start-up capitals in new domains.
He called on all Cameroonians to shun violence for the interest of the Fatherland. “We have certainly accomplished a lot, but we still have so much to accomplish together.” Biya quipped. He newly sworn in Head of State did not have kind words for trouble makers. He said terrorism is a plague that must be fought vigorously wherever it shows its hideous face.
“I am appealing to the sense of responsibility of each and everyone, especially those who seek to fuel hatred and violence in our country, particularly some of our compatriots in the diaspora. Cameroon cannot afford a post-election crisis with potentially devastating consequences, as witnessed elsewhere.”
