Atanga Nji Paul, Minister of Territorial Administration on April 8, 2025 personally supervised the destruction of some seized 30 tonnes of Indian hemp, popularly known as marijuana worth FCFA 500 million and several tonnes of fake medication worth FCFA 360 million FCFA. The illegal items that were seized from dealers by forces of law and order and Cameroon Customs officials were publicly burnt to ashes at the HYSACAM dump site which is situated on the Bafoussam-Foumbot road.
After pouring fuel on the seized items and setting them ablaze, Minister Atanga Nji saluted the commitment of the Governor of the West Region, health and security officials in their relentless fight against drug trafficking, which has not only become a serious public health issue, but also a serious threat to security and public order. He said the zeal to track down criminals should continue as their activities are a serious threat to national security. He added that the public destruction of the seized fake drugs and marijuana was aimed at deterring criminals from embarking on such dangerous activities. The MINAT Boss insisted that goods that are fake or imported illegally must be destroyed, noting the dangerous link between drug consumption and crime.
Prior to the destruction of the fake drugs and Marijuana, the MINAT boss held a security evaluation meeting at the West Governor’s Conference Hall. He stated that the security evaluation meeting was at the instance of President Paul Biya, Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed forces, who wanted to take the pulse of the security situation in the West Region. The MINAT boss said the security meeting was also aimed at evaluation the socio-economic life of the region and to evaluate the execution of development projects that impact on the lives of the populations. The political situation was also under the scanner, given that 2025 is an electoral year in Cameroon.
