Wednesday, September 17, 2025, will enter the annals of history as the day the Prime Minister, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute finally commissioned Lots I and Lots II of the Babadjou-Bamenda road, an important infrastructure that has witnessed construction delays, due to the armed conflict in the North West Region. After inspecting a guard of honour, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute cut the ribbon on the 59.9 KM road that links the West Region to the North West Region. The road is part of the Yaounde-Enugu Corridor that passes through Bafoussam and Bamenda.

It is worthy to recall that the commissioning of the Babadjou-Bamenda Road is coming some eight years after it was launched by the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi. The initial cost of the road was estimated at FCFA 113 billion and the contract won by Sogea Satom, a company that finally declined doing the contract when on October 14, 2021 separatist fighters attacked and razed to dust equipment belonging to the company. After several delays and lobbying, the contract was handed to BUNs, an indigenous company. Although the contract was divided into three lots for easy and speedy execution, the other companies did not meet up and BUNS had to do the road alone.

According to the Prime Minister, Chief Dr. Dion Ngute, the road will not only boost trade and ease transportation, but also serve as a tool of regional integration.

On the sidelines of the inauguration of the road, the PM will use his one-day working visit to the North West Region to also inspect some major infrastructural projects like the BMM C2D road project, the Mile IV Bridge and the new administrative block at the Mile IV market.

PM Dion Ngute will also visit the North West Regional Assembly, the leisure park near the Governor’s Office,  BUNS Construction Company base and the Bamenda Commercial Avenue. Another high-point of the one-day visit to Bamenda will be the laying of the Foundation Stone of at the Veterinary Junction of the Bamenda Urban Crossing Project jointly funded by C2D–MINHDU, MINTP and the World Bank.
