As the construction of the Ring Road advances through the North West Region, the village of Binka became a focal point on August 23, 2025 for community education and behavioral change. On this day, residents gathered for a sensitization campaign aimed at addressing pressing societal concerns linked to infrastructure development.
Organized by the Cameroon Development Network (CDN) in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works, the African Development Bank, and MAG SARL, the event brought together people from all walks of life. Through a blend of indoor sessions and door-to-door outreach, the campaign raised awareness on critical issues including health, road safety, environmental protection, and the preservation of national road patrimony.
Presentations tackled topics such as illegal logging, pollution, and the spread of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Health professionals provided free HIV/AIDS screening, offering residents both testing and counseling services. The initiative emphasized the importance of early detection, prevention, and stigmatization.
Road safety experts engaged the community on pedestrian awareness, motorcycle helmet use, and the dangers of speeding—especially as new roadways reshape local mobility. Environmental advocates highlighted the need to protect sacred forests, manage waste responsibly, and report ecological violations.
The sensitization campaign underscored the importance of behavioral change as a foundation for sustainable development. By equipping the population with knowledge and tools, organizers hope to foster a culture of safety, health, and environmental stewardship as the Ring Road project unfolds. Speakers during the meeting included amongst others Dr. Yolar Blandine, Chia Demian, Lamu Kalvin and Adam Arafat Mohamed while Haruna Mohammadou Njong and Marguerite Stephanie Elono facilitated the discussions.
